On January 2, the NMPA official website announced that the stem cell therapy 'Aimi Maito Sai' from Platinum Excellence Biotechnology (Beijing) Co., Ltd. has been approved for market launch, used fortreating acute graft-versus-host disease with hormone treatment failure primarily affecting the digestive tract in patients over 14 years old.This isthe first domestically approvedstem cell therapy, marking a significant milestone for similar therapies in the country.

Let's learn about what stem cell therapy is. The approved therapy is a type of mesenchymal stem cell therapy, sourced from allogeneic umbilical cord cells. Mesenchymal stem cell therapy(Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy, abbreviated as MSCtherapy)is a method that uses mesenchymal stem cells for treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are a type of pluripotent stem cells originating from the mesoderm, capable of self-renewal and multi-directional differentiation. By extracting these mesenchymal stem cells, culturing them in vitro, and injecting them into the patient's body, clinical applications such as immune regulation and tissue repair can be achieved.

Stem cells can be obtained from various sources, including bone marrow, adipose tissue, and umbilical cord blood.  Separation, purification, and expansion of stem cells

In the laboratory, stem cells need to be cultured under specific conditions to promote their proliferation and differentiation. During the culture process, the growth status of the cells needs to be monitored regularly to ensure their quality and safety.
