Cell counting affects many aspects of biotechnology, ranging from biofabrication and medical diagnostics to advanced therapies. This national standard provides a method for evaluating quality-related aspects of cell-counting measurement processes through the design of a serial dilution experiment. Based on this experimental design, a set of quality indicators can be derived to assess the performance of cell-counting measurement processes.

Fill the standardization gap

Before the release of GB/T 42076.2-2025, the cell-counting industry lacked relevant standards and specifications, resulting in a lack of uniform technical parameters for cell-counting products, disorderly competition within the industry, and harm to the interests of research users. The issuance of this national standard fills the gap in industry standards and specifications, and will promote the orderly and healthy development of the industry.

Drafting unit

The drafting units of this national standard include industry-leading institutions such as West China School of Stomatology, Qilu Hospital of Shandong University, the Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Xi'an Jiaotong University. This standard reflects the consensus reached by influential players in the industry. Newton Optics has been deeply engaged in the fields of cell counting and cell analysis for many years and has established a comprehensive technical system and set of technical standards. As one of the drafting units, Newton Optics’ extensive experience has been incorporated into this standard. In both product design and testing, Newton Optics fully complies with national standard requirements; indeed, certain key parameters—such as data repeatability and stability—are even higher than those specified in the national standard.
